| The 2006 - 2007 NCLB Title IID ITV Grant |
Now
in its third year, the Eloy Partnership has been refunded through the
NCLB Title IID Enhancing Education through Technology Grant. The grant
partners with Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology and
Central Arizona College to train teachers in using interactive
televison to enhance classroom instruction.
Interactive Television (videoconferencing) uses two-way, real-time
television to link two or more sites. Teachers from Eloy Elementary
District, Florence Unified District, and Maricopa Unified District will
participate in various distance learning training sessions to learn how
to use videoconferencing equipment and integrate this technology in
their classrooms. The goals for this year's grant are to increase
teacher ASSET 360° Technology Assessment and student Technology
Literacy Assessment scores. The grant will also provide several parent
workshops throughout the school year and will continune last years Math
Tutor Training project.
Pinal County Interactive Televison Consortium
|
Partially
funded by the NCLB Ed Tech Grant, the Pinal County Interactive
Televison Consortium assists school districts in planning and
installing videoconference sites. This year, Curiel School in the Eloy
Elementary District will receive its first videoconference room.
Need for Interactive Televison
|
Distance
learning through Interactive Television (ITV) allows students and
teachers to access many classes and services that they normally
wouldn't be able to access. High school students can take college
academic classes, students and teachers can take virtual tours and
access educational programming from sites around the world. They can
collaborate with classrooms and colleagues from schools anywhere that
has ITV facilities. Low enrollment and the cost of travel for field
trips is not a factor when students can access resources and hold face
to face conferences without leaving their school sites.
